10 Best Mini Projectors For Movies –Reviews In 2021

Mini projectors are now available in such a small size that they can be attached to a smartphone like the Motorola moto z3 play. So you can quickly project a film on the wall, watch sports or play games in the VW bus.

In terms of image quality, however, the larger and heavier models from LG or Toumei (which are still called mini projectors despite a weight of over 2 kg) do better in external practical tests. Our TÜV-certified consumer portal has researched the best models that give a good picture even in a compact format (at least in the dark) and do not ruin the film fun with a loud hum. The evaluation of hundreds of customer reviews also helped us here.

Figuring out how to choose a good projector could prove to be a difficult undertaking with the risk of purchasing a disappointing product. In order to avoid this occurrence we have decided to draw up the following guide where you will find the most interesting and appreciated offers, with the possibility of making a direct comparison between the products sold online.

By analyzing our table you can choose the newest or cheapest projector on the market according to your needs. Respectively in first and second position you will find QKK AK-80 , an entry level model for those who do not have particularly refined vision needs, and Tenswall 3,800 Lumen, which uses OSRAM LED lamps with a contrast ratio of 12,000: 1, capable of projecting images in particularly bright rooms.

Our Top Selection

10  Best MINI Projectors – Ranking 2020

If you don’t know which projector to buy, the best way to find out about it is to carefully analyze the technical data sheet of the products that catch your attention the most. By taking into consideration factors such as lumen value and maximum supported resolution you can make an informed purchase without wasting your money.

Therefore, do not aim directly at the best-selling projectors as they may not be suitable for your needs.

The following ranking of the best projectors of 2020 has been made taking into consideration the opinions of users who have had the opportunity to try them. Therefore, by reading our reviews carefully you will find vital information about each device.

  1. QKK AK-80 1080P FHD 3800 Lumen Projector

The one proposed by QKK can be considered the best portable projector on our list, perfect to be always carried with you thanks to the case included in the package whose purpose is to protect the fragile lens these devices are usually equipped with.

The lumen value, essential to understand the effectiveness of the projector in more or less illuminated environments, is equal to 2,400, so you must make sure you are in a particularly dark room if you want to correctly display the projected images. It is therefore not a product designed for business use where a much higher value is required for presentations in lighted offices.

As often happens, one might think that the projector has a Full HD output, however the 1,920 x 1,080 pixels are only the supported resolution, which is reconverted and transmitted at 800 x 480 pixels, even lower than the HD Ready value.

If you have a large enough room and are viewing the projected images from a distance, the maximum resolution should not be a problem, however it is not recommended for use in excessively small rooms.

Pro

Low prices : Having a very low cost, the QKK projector proves to be a great choice for all users on a limited budget.

Portable : The compact size and the inclusion of a carrying case in the box make the product easy to take with you.

Inputs : Thanks to a fair amount of slots, including HDMI, USB, SD card, VGA and AV, the projector can be connected to many different devices.

Versus

Output : While supporting Full HD, the projected images will have a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels, a low value considering today’s standard.

  1. Tenswall 4K 3D Video Projector, 3800 Lumens Mini

The latest projector on our list is made by Tenswall and has a lumen value of 3,800, making it not only suitable for home entertainment but also for projection in bright offices during business meetings or even schools and universities. This is possible thanks to the use of OSRAM LED lamps, with a contrast ratio of 12,000: 1.

The maximum resolution supported is the new Ultra HD, also known as 4K, although the output is much lower, i.e. 1,280 x 800 pixels.

It should be noted that the device works only if connected to a power source, does not have an internal battery and therefore requires a continuous flow of electric current. You cannot therefore use it while you are away from home to watch an outdoor movie with your friends.

The Tenswall product is designed for business use rather than for entertainment, therefore, also considering its cost, it should only be considered by those who need a high lumen value.

Pro

Business : With a Lumen value of 3,800, the Tenswall product is perfect for projections in bright environments, such as offices or even universities.

Ultra HD : The projector can receive 4K resolution signal, then convert it back to 1,280 x 800 pixels.

Android : Using one of the most popular operating systems, you can enjoy a significant amount of applications that you can install.

Versus

Power supply : Needing constant electricity, it cannot be used outdoors, displeasing some users who thought it could act as a portable projector.

  1. DR.Q Mini Projector L8 3800 Lumens 1080P HD

L8 by DR.Q is a mini projector, that is a device with extremely small dimensions, we are talking about 19.8 x 15 x 7.5 cm, and with a low weight of 1.5 kg. It is therefore perfect to be always carried with you, perhaps to organize the viewing of a film with friends or relatives.

The maximum resolution supported is Full HD, that is 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, the native resolution, however, is equal to 800 x 480 pixels. This means that when you insert a Full HD signal, the projector will resize it giving you a larger image, from 32 to 170 inches, but with a lower definition.

The lumen value, on the other hand, which determines the visibility of the image in illuminated rooms, is 3,600. Therefore you will not be able to project videos and images in too bright places and you will have to create a situation of semi-darkness. This is not the best projector on the market but it still has a low cost that could meet the needs of those who want to project videos from their smartphone while away from home, for example.

Pro

Dimensions : The Dr.Q projector is extremely small and handy, designed to be always carried with you and connected to your mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Also compatible with both iOS and Android.

Price : If we consider that the average cost of projectors largely exceeds a hundred euros, L8 proves to be very interesting, especially if you do not have high quality requirements.

Quiet : Users claim that despite having a 3,600 lumen lamp, the product is exceptionally quiet. So perfect if you can’t stand insistent buzzes while watching your multimedia content.

Versus

Resolution : Native is not high enough to meet everyday standards. Projecting an image that originally has Full HD quality at 800 x 480 pixels may indeed make it too grainy.

  1. Artlii HD Led Projector Full HD 1080p support

The one proposed by Artlii, on the other hand, is a slightly cheaper projector with a lumen value of 3,500, to correctly display the projected contents even in a slightly lit room. You can connect it to a huge variety of devices via AV, VGA, USB, HDMI, TF cables and even Chromecast.

Also in this case, attention must be paid to the resolution since, although Full HD input at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels is supported, in reality the output falls within the HD Ready definition, with a value equal to 1,280 x 800 pixels. It is therefore not the best product for those who want maximum fidelity in playing multimedia content that you can find on Blu Ray or streaming services such as Netflix.

The advantage of the projector proposed by Artlii is certainly in the price, much lower than that proposed by other companies. To understand where to buy this device, all you have to do is click on the link below.

Pro

Resolution : Although the output is 1,280 x 800 pixels, the projector performs well giving a clear and satisfying image when used in large rooms.

Lumen : This value is also interesting, which stands at 3,500, making it compatible even for work uses.

Cost : By making a quick comparison with other devices, you can see that Artlii’s HD Black has a lower price despite offering similar performance.

Versus

Noise : If you are looking for a quiet product it may not be for you as some users have found it to be slightly louder than average.

  1. BenQ W1110 DLP Projector, 6 Segment Color Wheel

Among the most appreciated qualities of BenQ’s W1110 projector we find a remarkable quietness compared to the average of other products, comparable according to consumers to that of a PC cooling fan with a small increase when watching HD content.

The lumen value is 2,200, thus making the product usable only in quite dark environments, relegating it mainly to domestic use. The supported resolution is Full HD while as regards the output we have the maximum if you use a VGA cable, or 640 x 480 pixels, and well 1,920 x 1,200 with HDMI, respecting the native resolution of most of today’s multimedia contents, both movies both video games.

The quality of the BenQ product is undeniable and also satisfies users with its construction and additional features, such as CinemaMaster + audio quality, to make you feel just like you are in the room.

Anyone who has no budget problems and can opt for one of the best projectors on the market should consider purchasing the BenQ product to have a small cinema in their own home.

Pro

Full HD : The resolution goes far beyond the classic 1,080 pixels, reaching 1,920 x 1,200, higher enough to offer excellent multimedia experiences.

Audio : With CinemaMaster + technology, you can immerse yourself more in the action, just as if you were in the theater.

Quiet : In order not to disturb watching movies or playing your favorite video games, the product is equipped with a cooling fan that reduces noise.

Versus

Cost : The BenQ product is mid to high end, so it should only be considered by users who don’t have any budget issues.

  1. Epson EB-U05 3LCD, WUXGA 3,400 Lumen projector

Moving on to a much higher price range we find the Epson EB-U05 projector, with a lumen value of 3,400, for bright and sharp images up to a maximum size of 300 inches. The product is designed for quality entertainment with effective support for Full HD resolution, with adequate output to avoid loss of definition.

Users who have had the opportunity to try it claim that it performs excellently in other areas as well, such as the business sector for presentations in the office and even in classrooms using only free PC sticks for direct reading of archived files.

The only element that has not convinced consumers much is the build quality, despite having a professional design it turns out to be too light with a not very resistant plastic body.

The EB-U05 projector proves to be suitable for users who have different needs, performing well in all situations. Given the cost, however, it may not be the right choice for those who want a cheap product.

Pro

Full HD : The support, in this case, also provides an output at 1,080 pixels, to better enjoy your movies.

Lumen : The value is equal to 3,400, sufficiently high even for business uses that require presentations in lighted offices.

300 inches : The maximum size of the projected image is considerable, making the unit ideal for large living rooms.

Versus

Materials : Although it is a technologically advanced product, it lacks slightly from a construction point of view, with not very resistant plastics.

  1. ABOX A2 Mini Native HD 1280 * 720p Projector

For those looking for a slightly more performing video projector, by spending a little more it is possible to opt for A2 by Abox, with a native resolution that reaches HD resolution, or 1.280 x 720 pixels, with support for the 4: 3 screen aspect ratio and 16: 9. The lumen value, 3,000, is also within the average, so you must always make the room particularly dark in order to enjoy clear images.

As for connectivity, it is compatible with game consoles, Fire TV Sticks, TV Boxes, notebooks and blu-ray players. On the back, to make these connections, you will find a VGA and an HDMI port. The device is also equipped with built-in 2 watt speakers, not very powerful but still a solution that satisfies those who do not have an external system or speakers to connect. A defect encountered by users is the inability to adjust the zoom of the lens and you have to do it by moving the projector closer or further from the image.

Pro

HD Ready : Unlike other low-cost projectors, the Abox device has a native HD resolution, 1,280 x 720 pixels, thus offering viewing of images and videos in high quality.

Speakers : There are two inside. However, for those who are not satisfied with their performance, it is possible to connect external ones thanks to the 3.5 mm jack found on the back.

Price : It is not the cheapest on the list but it still manages to stand out also for this detail, especially if we consider the qualitative rendering of the images.

Versus

Fan : A flaw that some users have found is in the noise of the device, given by the fact that it gets very hot during projection.

Jago Projector Screen 203x203cm

If you have purchased a projector but do not know where to see the contents or simply the house wall does not satisfy you, it may be time to equip yourself with a projector sheet like the one proposed by Jago. The product is available in different sizes, to best suit the room where you intend to install it, from a minimum of 152 x 152 up to a maximum of 203 x 203 cm.

According to consumers who have tried it, the mechanism that makes the cloth slide in its housing is of excellent quality, proving to be resistant and therefore also suitable for being opened and closed several times during the day.

QKK Projector  Lumens Mini Projector

The cost is extremely low, and a case is also included in the price to make transport easier without the risk of accidental breakage. The maximum resolution leaves something to be desired, turning out to be just 800 x 480 pixels, inferior not only to Full HD but even to the old HD Ready standard. A problem that plagues low-end projectors, however. The product is suitable for those who want to spend extremely little and need a compact device to always carry with them. Everyone else may not appreciate the low quality of the images.

Tenswall 4K 3D Video ProjectoR

The Tenswall projector integrates the Android operating system, thus allowing the installation of numerous applications that are usually used on smartphones or tablets. It also features HDMI, VGA inputs and an audio jack output for connecting to stereo systems. Although it is identified as a projector capable of supporting 4K resolution, it actually has a lower output and the native resolution stands at 1,280 x 800 pixels. The device, considering the cost, falls into a medium-high range even though it does not have real 4K support. It is therefore a projector suitable only for users who need a particularly high lumen value.

DR.Q L8 Projector, Mini Projector

The size of Dr.Q’s L8 is one of the most appreciated factors by users, allowing you to always carry the device with you to watch movies or project your favorite content during an evening with friends. The native resolution, as one would expect from a small product, reaches just 800 x 480 pixels. It is therefore not the best choice if your aim is to have clear images at a close distance. The value for money is particularly convincing and although the image quality is not the best, it is still a standard value when it comes to portable projectors. With 3,600 lumens, it can also guarantee good vision in low-light environments.

Buying Guide – How to Choose the Best Projectors?

Choosing the best projector on the market can be a difficult operation. The devices, in fact, are accurately described with acronyms that may be unknown to most.

Do not be afraid, however, since we will explain to you all the most important details to take into consideration, thus avoiding you to waste your money on products that may not prove satisfactory or unsuitable for your needs.

What use will you make of it?

Before choosing the projector it is good to ask yourself what use you will make of it, based on the answer you can opt for more or less performing devices.

The movie buffs who want to bring home the experience that you can try in the room, are unlikely to be satisfied with a projector low-resolution or that does not allow to be connected to an external Hi-Fi system whereas the users who need it for projections in the office they may consider some models too bulky or with too low a lumen value. It is therefore good to first establish the use, and then analyze the technical characteristics.

For cinema lovers

Those who want a real home cinema must focus above all on the native resolution. The video projectors on sale on the market are often not sincere about this detail and try to confuse users with untrue acronyms. The best way to enjoy a movie through a projector is to have a device that natively supports Full HD or, better yet, Ultra HD resolution.

If you find a low-cost projector that promises this feature you may need to investigate further. There is a huge difference between what is called “maximum resolution” and “native resolution”. The first relates to the incoming signal while the second relates to the outgoing signal. In addition to the first, therefore, it is above all the second that must be equal to Full HD or Ultra HD. Therefore, check this detail carefully before purchasing.

Lumen value

This value indicates the projector’s ability to display images and videos in more or less bright environments. The larger it is, the brighter the image. For those who have to use these devices in places where it is impossible to completely darken the room, such as in conference rooms or business meetings, the best choice is to opt for a projector that has a high lumen value or that uses the classification ANSI, which stands for American National Standards Institute.

Two projectors with equal Lumen and ANSI Lumen value will not be the same, the second, in fact, will have a better output and a higher cost.

Connectivity

Based on the devices you intend to connect, you will then need to evaluate the available slots on the back of the projector. Our advice is to always opt for video projectors that have at least one HDMI slot, one USB and a 3.5mm jack for connecting external audio systems.

Especially as regards the audio, some projectors are equipped with internal speakers but their performance is very limited by the fact that they are often noisy products. The fan, therefore, risks overwhelming the audio, preventing proper listening of the projected multimedia content.

Dimensions and weight

Finally, if you need a portable projector, please always consider its size and weight.

On the market there are a large number of devices that are easy to carry with you, able to interface with your smartphone or laptop. These also have a reduced price, meeting the needs of consumers who have to use them for business. By following these basic tips you will be able to choose the best projector for your needs.

Frequent questions

How does a projector work?

The projector is a device equipped with a halogen lamp which, by emitting a beam of light, is able to show video and images from a source on a screen. The internal mechanism uses three mirrors that divide the light into the three primary colors, namely blue, green and red.

These pass through a liquid crystal matrix where they are then reassembled to recreate the original image which, passing through special lenses, is enlarged on a surface.

Although the internal procedure is very complex, the use of the product is very simple and all you have to do to use it is to connect the cables and turn it on to project everything that comes from notebooks, game consoles, smartphones and tablets.

How much does a projector cost?

The cost of the projector is related to its capabilities and the technology it is equipped with. If you are looking for a low-cost device, less than a hundred euros, you will have to settle for a video quality that does not reach the HD resolution, usually 800 x 480 pixels.

By increasing the cost, even reaching a thousand euros, you can opt for projectors capable of reaching a native Ultra HD resolution, which, for the uninitiated, is equal to 3,840 x 2,160 pixels, the technology that the latest TVs are equipped with. generation. Furthermore, the Lumen value also affects the price.

What are the Lumens of a projector?

For those wondering what a lumen value is, it is a unit of measurement of the luminous flux emitted by the projector’s internal lamp. The higher this number, the more the image will be visible in bright environments.

Conversely, a device with a low Lumen value will need complete darkness to project a clearly visible image. The choice in this case depends a lot on the use you will make of the projector. If you need it for presentations in offices that are difficult to darken, then you may prefer a device with a high Lumen value. If you have to use it primarily at home, however, you could also save some money by opting for a projector with a lower value.

How to clean a projector?

To always get a perfect image, it is very important to take care of the projector lens. If you notice any dust or dirt that has accumulated, it is best to remove it without scratching the lens. One way to remove dust is to use cans of compressed air, spraying from a distance of at least 10 centimeters should be able to blow away even the most stubborn dust.

As for stains, fingerprints or other more persistent halos, it may be appropriate to use a microfiber cloth moistened with a little detergent for photographic lenses. Absolutely avoid the use of alcohol and non-specific chemical detergents because they could irreparably ruin the lens.

How to build a projector?

For the more ingenious and DIY user, you can even build a projector for your smartphone. Of course you cannot expect the quality of a product regularly placed on the market but it can be a nice idea to implement with your children.

First of all, you will need a cardboard box, black cards and a lens, which is essential for enlarging the image. Therefore, cut out a hole on the short part of the cardboard box as large as the lens you will use, perhaps using a compass to trace the circumference precisely.

Now, line the inside of the box with the black cards, thereby creating an internal black liner. Attach the lens to the hole, using glue or tape. All that remains is to create an internal support, always using black cards, which can hold the smartphone still.

The last step is to place the phone in the box, taking care to keep it upside down with respect to the video you want to view on the wall, close the box with a removable lid, turn off the lights and enjoy the video directly on the home wall.

How to use a projector

How to connect the PC to the projector

The primary use of the projector is to display video and images from an external source. This can be a PC, a tablet, a smartphone, a game console or DVD and Blu-Ray players. Some users prefer to connect their computer to send not only video but the desktop itself and then use a larger “screen” to surf the internet, for example. But how can the projector be connected to the PC? It is actually a very simple procedure.

First make sure you have an HDMI or VGA cable available. The former is capable of transmitting the Full HD signal while the latter has a native resolution of 640 x 480. We therefore recommend that you opt for the former. Connect one end of the cable to the projector and the other to the PC, starting them both.

By right-clicking on the desktop you can access the video settings. In this section you will have to select the presence of an additional screen, taking care not to select it as an “extension” of the first. The game is done, you just have to enjoy the contents of your PC projected on the wall or on a special sheet.

How to connect the Mac to the projector

If instead of a PC with a Windows operating system you have an Apple Mac, do not despair, the procedure is equally very simple. First turn on the projector, then connect it to the Mac using the appropriate USB-C cable if supported, otherwise you will need to get an adapter that allows connection via HDMI cable. After interfacing the devices, open the System Preferences on the Mac and then “Monitor”, where you will have to select the preferred layout.

If the projector is set to the correct source, which is the right HDMI slot, you should be able to immediately see everything happening on your Mac display. Enjoy!

How to connect the tablet to the projector

To connect a tablet to the projector, you don’t have to go through bizarre or complex procedures, as always, all you need is a compatible projector and the right connecting cable unless it supports the wireless function. So make sure your projector has a USB output, usually the quickest way to connect a tablet or smartphone, and, after turning it on, plug in the cable.

With the tablet running, plug the other end of the USB cable into the slot and you should immediately see the tablet screen projected onto the wall. If that doesn’t happen, it’s probably because the device doesn’t have an Android operating system.

In this case it is necessary to understand how to connect the iPad to the projector, which is a tablet developed by Apple with an iOS operating system. After making the classic cable connection, you will need to access the iPad’s “Personal Hotspot” function and activate the AirPlay application, selecting the projector from the list. A couple of more steps, therefore, compared to other tablets.

What is a projector?

Projectors, or video projectors, are devices that allow you to view video of any kind on a white surface thanks to light, just like those that are used in cinemas today. Naturally these devices are available, in a less powerful and above all less expensive version, also for home use. It is not uncommon to find users who prefer to invest in a projector that is capable of displaying video on a plain white wall or a canvas held in tension rather than buying a particularly large screen TV.

Advantages and disadvantages of technology

Among the main advantages there is certainly the feeling of being in the cinema. For fans of the big screen who visit theaters on a regular basis, the feeling of sitting and watching a good movie on a giant surface is priceless. The home video projector, if you have enough space, can in a certain sense replicate that feeling by revealing itself to be a quality choice. Furthermore, a good projector can handle high qualities including Full HD and even Ultra HD resolution.

However, this is not a technology that has no disadvantages, in fact, if you love practicality of use, you’d better opt for a simple TV, much more immediate to use and already equipped with speakers for audio playback. As it is easy to imagine, in fact, a video projector is not equipped with any audio reproduction system and you will necessarily have to connect a Hi-Fi system equipped with speakers and subwoofer.

Another element that could make you give up is the need to find a large room that can be suitably darkened. In this way, even a projector with a low Lumen value could give you clear images.

Video projector or TV?

In light of the information we have given you, it is not easy to determine what is best between a projector and a television, because it all depends on your needs.

If you love to watch TV programs and after a working day you prefer to do a bit of zapping, probably the projector could be just a grain while for those who love to see films or documentaries on an important screen, enjoying details and details up to 100 inches in size. , he should probably go for the projector despite the need for painstaking setup and more care and attention.

Other uses of the projector

Although the most common use that comes to mind when thinking about video projection is that of cinema, that’s not the only way the technology is exploited. The projectors are in fact extremely popular in the didactic and also in the business. In the first case it is possible to find them installed in university classrooms, museums and in general in any place where it is necessary to reproduce certain films and presentations for educational purposes. Even companies use it for meetings, reunions, project presentations and so on.

To meet this type of market, mini video projectors are available nowadays, some even pocket sized.

Their only drawback is the need for a completely dark room to be used because the limited size does not allow you to install a lamp with a high lumen value. However, this is a constantly evolving technology and there is no shortage of smartphones that are trying to implement video projection functions by applying three-dimensional effects: real holograms.

Older children will remember, for example, the famous holographic chess game in Star Wars, a science fiction technology that could therefore become a reality according to the latest patents presented by the South Korean giant Samsung. In the near future, the first foldable smartphones, already a major innovation in the market, should be introduced to the market, which could implement holographic projection technology, showing three-dimensional images floating in the air.

At the moment it is simply a patent and we do not know if the technology has a real application, however it could certainly be an aid for teaching, making it possible to show students objects that are perhaps in a museum at the other end of the world.

Projectors for smartphones

At the moment, however, you have to settle for classic projectors that can be connected via USB cable to your smartphone, to reproduce any type of content on a white surface. If you are thinking of buying one to always take with you to the office or maybe even for evenings to spend with friends, you can find a wide selection on the market.

To choose the one that best suits your needs you will have to evaluate, as always, the resolution and brightness, the fundamental elements in choosing a projector.

As for the resolution, try to opt for devices that have under the heading “native resolution” a resolution that is at least HD, or 1,280 x 720 pixels, even better if Full HD, 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. This detail is important to ensure a clean and crisp image, thus giving you the opportunity to enjoy movies, videos and TV series in satisfactory quality. If, on the other hand, you only need to use it to project statistical data or make presentations in the office, projectors with a lower resolution may also suffice.

The lumen value, on the other hand, must be considered according to the room where you will use the projector. If you know it can’t be completely dimmed, then you should choose a lumen as high as possible. Conversely, if you are sure that the room can be made dark, you can save some money by purchasing a model with a slightly less powerful lamp.

What is a mini projector?

A mini projector is a projector that, thanks to a few technical tricks, fits into a particularly small housing. Depending on the model, such a projector can sometimes be accommodated in a pocket so that it is really ready for use in any situation.

Plastic housing housed. These devices have a manual adjustment so that the output image can be displayed in the correct ratio on a white wall or canvas. This allows you to align and focus the image horizontally and vertically.

As is known, the projection is not always perpendicular to the projection plane, so that trapezoidal distortion can sometimes occur. In this regard too, mini projectors offer corresponding setting options so that afterward you get a completely correct projection ratio in relation to the image.

Most devices are powered by a 230-volt power supply. But there are also models that have an integrated battery, so you don’t need a socket at the presentation site.

Most modern mini projectors can produce a resolution of at least 1,080 pixels. In this respect, they are HD capable. Some top models or the mini projector test winners even achieve a  Full HD resolution of 1,920 pixels . Even 4K models with a resolution of 4,096 pixels are now available.

For sufficient brightness, these devices are equipped with high-quality LEDs as projection light. For projectors, the brightness is specified in lumens, with differences of between 40 and 3,000 lumens. We’ll talk about the actual functioning later.

Many mini projectors have small plastic or rubber feet for a secure stand. Some models can be individually adjusted in height so that the image height can also be adjusted better. In terms of function and use, on the other hand, there is no difference to a real projector.

How does a mini projector work?

Unlike classic projectors , mini projectors use LEDs instead of large projector lamps for lighting. This is the only way to build projectors in such a small format.

LED lamps have made significant progress since they were created and today they are really offering microscopic dimensions still very high brightness.

Apart from the lighting, the principle of operation of a mini projector is similar to that of a large model. Here too, an image is projected onto a surface , whereby different sizes are possible depending on the model. In addition to a connector for a power supply unit, some mini projectors also have a battery for mobile use.

With this technology, a very good video display can be generated, whereby afterglow is prevented. Likewise, with this technology, the image is no longer burned in, as was previously the case with picture tubes. Very realistic black contrasts can also be created. The pixel structure is hardly recognizable. Since it is a one-chip module, the optics can no longer collect dust.

Unfortunately, the light output of mini projectors is limited because the number of lumens is significantly lower than that of professional home cinema projectors. The image is therefore hardly noticeable in a brighter environment. With inexpensive mini beamers , the color wheel does not reach a very high rotation speed, so that there are color edges on the outside of the image. Mini projectors in the lower price range can also flicker and not always reproduce the colors true to color.

Thanks to the compact design of mini projectors, LEDs are primarily used as projection light. DLP is also used, the test winners are now replacing the LEDs with LCD technology . LED projectors do not offer very high light output. Nevertheless, they are extremely energy-efficient, so that the devices manage almost without cooling. It should also be emphasized that these projectors have a much longer lifespan. The LEDs have a  life of more than 20,000 hours .

Understandably, the mini projectors do not stand up to the home theater models. However, they are very suitable for presentations for business lectures. But these compact mini projectors are also very suitable for a video evening in a holiday home or as a screen replacement for a game console.

Regardless of the technology used, the luminous flux plays an important role in all devices. A good mini projector should have at least 1,000 lumens of luminous flux. If you set the color and contrast correctly here, you can get a usable video image. In general, however, the light output in daily use is below the number of lumens specified by the manufacturer.

The projection ratio depends on the built-in optics. Despite compact dimensions, zoom lenses are also built into the inexpensive mini beamers  . You can easily achieve the projection ratio yourself. For example, let’s say you have a mini projector with a zoom lens that has a projection ratio between 1.5: 1 and 2.2: 1. At a distance of 5 meters from the screen, you get a minimum image width of 5 m divided by 2.2. This results in an image width of 2.27 m. The maximum image width is 5 m divided by 1.5 and results in an image width of 3.33 m.

With the classic  4: 3 aspect ratio,  we calculate 3/4 of the image width. In the present case with a width of 2.27 m you get an image height of 1.70 m.  If you use the  16: 9 aspect ratio, we calculate 9/16 of the image width. So at 2.27 m you get an image height of 1.28 m.

Mini projector in the practical test by TURN ON

The technology magazine TURN ON from Saturn tested 3 mini projectors and presented them in a practical test. The handiest model, the mini projector MOTOROLA moto z3 play, is very easy to attach to the smartphone and thus projects the mobile phone screen onto the wall. With only 50 lumens and a relatively low resolution, however, you don’t get a particularly good picture, especially not if there is a certain ambient brightness. According to the testers, this model is therefore not recommended for a price of over 200 euros.

The much larger and also about three times as expensive mini projector VIVITEK Qumi Q38 pocket projector is a different caliber. It has a resolution in Full HD and a brightness of 600 lumens. Accordingly, the picture is much better. The contrasts could be a bit better, according to the testers, but they are generally satisfied with the picture. The operation and the technical equipment with all connection options such as USB, jack plug, or HDMI connection are also very good. The shortcoming is the noise level from the fan, which turns out to be annoying in the mini projector test.

With a weight of around 2.5 kg, the mini projector LG HF80JG is the largest, heaviest (and with over 1000 euros also the most expensive) model in the mini projector category. But it also has 2000 lumens and works via Bluetooth. The price is very high for a mini projector, but according to the testers, you get a very good device. The resolution seems to be very good and the noise level from the fan is not disturbing with a maximum of 30 decibels.

In general, the testers note that mini projectors do not have the same functionality as large projectors, which also offer trapets correction, for example.

The comments on the mini projector test are also interesting . Some write that the Toumei C800S mini projector is the best model with the best price-performance ratio. Some also recommend their older models such as the Mini Beamer LG PH300 or the Mini Beamer LG PA1000T . The newer models in this projector category from LG are the mini projector LG 550 G and the mini projector LG PH30JG .

Advantages & areas of application

By far the biggest advantage of mini projectors is their portability . They are small and light and can be taken with you on any occasion. In this way it is easy to give spontaneous presentations or to watch films on a large screen in a hotel room. Those who travel a lot will undoubtedly appreciate the advantages of mini projectors.

Advantages of mini projectors:

  • light and compact,
  • low energy consumption,
  • long-lasting LED lamps,
  • sufficiently good picture result,
  • designed for mobile use,
  • suitable for pictures and videos,
  • relatively inexpensive.
  •

In addition to portability, mini projectors also impress with their extremely low maintenance requirements. Owners of classic projectors are probably familiar with the problem that a projector lamp has to be replaced after a few years. This not only results in high costs, but also a considerable amount of maintenance.

In addition, regular cleaning of the components is important, so that a projector always has the high image quality and good brightness values. All of this is hardly an issue with mini projectors.

With good models, the LED lamps last for decades without losing their luminosity. This enables manufacturers to better protect housings against dust and other contaminants. For this reason, cleaning is not necessary as often as with a normal projector.

The power consumption also speaks a clear language for mobile projectors. In fact, projectors are anything but economical. You can easily and often need a multiple of a comparable television and thereby produce waste heat that should not be underestimated.

LED lamps in a mini projector stay cool compared to other lamps and they also allow themselves a lot less electricity from the socket. In the Mini Beamer Test 2020, some models are satisfied with less than 10 watts. The lower energy requirement inevitably leads to less waste heat, which also makes cooling easier. In practice, mini projectors are therefore generally much quieter than classic large-format projectors.

Due to their numerous advantages and their ease of use, mini projectors have already found many friends in the business sector. Representatives of companies can use it to visit customers and present vivid presentations on-site without the need for a projector. But mini projectors are also interesting for the private sector. Everyone can use it to transform any imaginable surface in their own household into a canvas in just a few simple steps. For example, you can also enjoy vacation pictures on the balcony or watch a film comfortably from the bathtub. The possibilities are only limited by your own imagination.

What types of mini projectors are there?

Mini projectors are available in both portable and stationary versions. Portable devices often have an integrated battery and particularly economical components.

This has the advantage that the projectors can be used anywhere and completely independently of a socket. Together with a laptop, tablet or smartphone, presentations, slide shows or films are no problem even outdoors .

As it turned out in our mini projector comparison, such projectors also have some disadvantages. Above all, the luminosity is rather limited compared to other models. Depending on the model, a convincing picture can only be achieved if the surroundings are completely dark. Even low brightness prevents the display and small light sources can outshine everything. In addition, mobile use is only possible to a limited extent. With a few exceptions, the batteries in portable mini projectors cannot last for longer than 2 hours of continuous operation. That is not even enough for the full reproduction of many feature films.

Stationary mini projectors offer significantly more power and therefore a higher luminosity. They are also suitable for use in illuminated rooms, but do not offer a rechargeable battery and are less easy to transport due to their size and weight.

Such devices are particularly useful if they are to be moved frequently within a building .

For example, a projector would be conceivable, which should be used in different offices in one company. At home, the canvas could also be moved from the living room to the bedroom.

However, if you always want to have a mini projector with you , you can’t avoid a portable device with a battery. Only then are the dimensions so small that the projector easily fits in a bag or backpack.

In addition to LED projectors, there are also some mini projectors that use particularly small projector lamps. They impress with excellent values in terms of brightness and image quality, but they also have all the disadvantages of classic projectors. In addition, in terms of size and weight, they are also significantly larger than projectors with LED lamps .

Mini projectors with projection lamps are particularly worth considering if you are looking for the best possible projector for a room with little space.

So we tested the mini projector

In our Mini Beamer Test 2020 , each individual model had to undergo an extensive test course. Only if a device can convince all along the line, it has a chance of winning the title mini projector comparison. We’ll tell you which categories are particularly important to us below.

picture quality

Luminosity plays a decisive role in the image quality of every projector. It is no different with mini projectors. However, for technical reasons, the devices are not quite as strong as normal projectors, which we naturally take into account in the test. However, we reveal whether content can be enjoyed with a particular device or whether only washed-out scenes can be seen.

resolution

The resolution has a decisive influence on the quality of a mini projector and therefore receives special attention from us in the mini projector test 2020 . In the best case, a device has an HD resolution to bring even the finest details in sharp focus on a screen. Depending on the application , lower resolutions can still be useful.

volume

Thanks to the micro technology in mini projectors , they can be operated completely silently in the best case . However, not every model is capable of this. Many small projectors still have active cooling, which of course also causes noise. In this category, we clarify whether the volume remains within a tolerable range or drowns out everything else in the area.

Battery life

If a mini projector comes with an integrated battery, we will of course examine exactly how long it can supply the device. It should be at least two hours so that it makes sense to use it away from an electrical outlet. The longer the battery lasts, the better, of course.

height and weight

For all those who always want to have a mini projector with them, size and weight are very important. Only if a device turns out to be small and light does it lend itself to permanent transport in a bag or backpack . In the mini projector test, we reveal the exact dimensions and weight of the individual devices. We also check whether the final dimensions are appropriate considering the technology offered.

processing

In this category we take a closer look at the general quality of the mini projectors . Both the quality of the materials used and the processing must be convincing. This means that a device should feel valuable and we are looking for gaps in vain. Good workmanship not only has optical advantages , it also ensures that the projector withstands external influences better, and thus for a better longevity of the components. This means that users can enjoy a mini projector for a much longer time than a model with a housing made of the cheapest plastic.

compatibility

Even the best mini projector is of little use if it cannot be used with your own devices. In the Compatibility category , we therefore check which image and sound sources the projectors work with. Connections like HDMI are almost mandatory here. There are pluses for connection options via USB, LAN and wirelessly via WLAN . Also slots for memory cards and remote controls are welcome.

Features and functions

Some projectors do not simply see themselves as output devices for external devices.

There are also some integrated features to discover. There are, for example Minibeamer with a complete Android operating system that can surf the web without a smartphone or PC, or even play videos from YouTube and Co. .

If such features are available on a mini projector, we will take a closer look at these in the test . We reveal how well the functions work in everyday life and whether they even make sense.

Price-performance ratio

A mini projector should always have a reasonable price in relation to its quality. This means that top models can still be a little more expensive , while slightly less well-equipped projectors are still worth a recommendation at a correspondingly low price.

In the mini projector test we compare every single device with comparable projectors and can show where the manufacturer demands too much for what is offered. If we get a bargain during the test , we will of course also reveal this.

What should I look out for when buying a mini projector?

A mini projector should primarily match the buyer’s individual requirements. If a device is to be used primarily on the go, small dimensions and light weight are decisive factors. On the other hand, if you only want to use the projector in one place, for example at home or in the office, you can still choose a slightly larger model with better image quality.

The equipment also depends on your own ideas. Should a projector be used for presentationsWhen buying, it is essential to ensure that there are suitable connections for connecting to a computer or notebook. For example, an HDMI connection is available, but VGA and DVI are also an option.

For portable entertainment centers , on the other hand, it is important that an operating system such as Android and sufficient memory are preinstalled on the projector. This means that numerous apps can be used without any additional devices, which gives the user an extra dose of flexibility.

Anyone who has found suitable devices for their own purposes should take a closer look at the quality of individual models. Our tests on the mini projectors provide good clues .

There you will find out exactly which devices can convince in terms of quality and where there is still some catching up to do. If you make sure that you get a good projector at the time of purchase, you won’t have any hassle with unfulfilled expectations later on.

In any case, resolution is also an important issue for a mini projector. Anyone who expects the best possible image quality will choose a model with HD resolution.

This means that significantly more details can be displayed on the projected image and the color scheme generally also benefits from the higher resolution. Mini projectors with a low resolution, on the other hand, offer the advantage of a longer battery life. Due to the lower demands on the technical components, the power consumption is lower and it is sometimes possible to use it for four hours or more. If portability is paramount, compromises in resolution are therefore perfectly legitimate.

After all, the price always plays a major role when buying a mini projector. Do not simply order a device from the next best supplier, but take the time to compare current prices. In this way it is not uncommon to save large amounts.

Brief information on leading manufacturers

Mini projectors are available from a large number of well-known manufacturers. This includes well-known companies in the field of normal projectors. In general, however, it is hardly possible for a technology company to include at least one device of this class in its portfolio. In the following we would like to briefly introduce you to the most important suppliers of mini projectors.

  • Philips

The Dutch company Philips has existed for more than 100 years and is now one of the largest suppliers of electronic items worldwide. The range includes everything your heart desires. Philips has also been very active with beamers for a long time and convinces with a variety of high-quality products at fair prices. The quality cannot keep up with the big ones of the wasteland, but it is at an above-average level. When it comes to mini projectors, Philips has astonishingly small models to discover that can

last for several hours with an integrated battery even without an external power supply. The large selection ensures that there is something suitable for every taste.

  • Acer
  • Acer was originally founded in Taiwan as a multitech. The company received its current name only in 1987. With the renaming, there were also major changes in the group structure. Acer focused more and more on the mass market and constantly conquered new areas. In the mid-1990s, the sale of PCs and laptops in particular rose rapidly. As a result, Acer was even the world’s leading manufacturer of complete systems for end customers at some points in time.
  • Acer did not rest on its laurels, but kept looking for new markets. Today, Acer therefore offers good and comparatively cheap products from countless areas. These include, for example, computer monitors, smartphones and tablets. Acer has created another mainstay with beamers, whereby the customers are to be addressed primarily with favorable prices. Acer is particularly striking with its mini projectors due to its excellent price-performance ratio. We can therefore recommend the products to occasional users who expect high quality, but still don’t want to spend too much on a mini projector.
  •

So if you are looking for the most user-friendly projector you can almost always make a good choice with a device from LG.
  •
  • Sony
  • Sony has a very high reputation among customers as well as industry and journalists. The Japanese company is one of the pioneers and pioneers in the field of hi-fi and electronics. Again and again, the Japanese convince with completely new developments that can turn the entire market upside down. The best known example of this is the Walkman, which changed the world in the 80s. For the first time, it was possible to have your own music with you wherever you were in a small device. As a result, classic ghetto blasters disappeared more and more from the street and instead, users enjoyed small and comfortable headphones.
  • The PlayStation game console enjoyed similar success to the Walkman in the 1990s. In just a few years, Sony conquered the market and outperformed the top dog Nintendo. Today PlayStation is a constant and always a guarantee for excellent financial results. In addition, Sony continues to manufacture some of the best TV, HiFi and smartphone products. When it comes to projectors, the Japanese are not as committed. There are one or the other model, but the selection is very limited. As a rule, the projectors always build a bridge to another product. This is also the case with mini projectors from Sony. These are geared specifically to the requirements of players and therefore partly even have PlayStation branding. The projectors are characterized by very good image quality with low latency. Everyone who likes their mini projector

want to play, should take a closer look at the Sony devices. Of course, the mini projectors are also suitable for other purposes and are not limited to use on a game console.

Internet vs. Specialist trade: where is the best place to buy my mini projector?

When looking for a new mini projector , it is not just a question of the best available device. Where the projector is bought is also an important issue. Mainly the classic  Specialized trade and the Internet . Here’s where you can get more for your money.

A great advantage of the specialist trade is the possibility to look at, touch and try out goods directly on site. Everyone can get a precise picture of certain items before buying.

However, this option is not necessarily helpful for every type of device. With a smartphone, for example, strengths and weaknesses only become apparent after a few days of use. Even mini projectors rarely reveal all of their advantages and disadvantages when viewed for five minutes.

In larger stores, the results are falsified anyway, because lighting in an electronics market is hardly equivalent to everyday lighting in a living room or office. For this reason, the picture will look completely different in everyday life than when presented at a specialist dealer.

For open questions, of course, there are sellers who are happy to help and advise. However, whether you can trust their statements depends on many factors. For one thing, the type of business is an important indicator. A seller in a specialist audio and video store is probably very familiar with mini projectors. However, the average employee in a large electrical chain knows little more than most customers. This can quickly result in incorrect advice.

That being said, not every seller always has the customer’s best interests in mind. There are many cases in which the focus is more on one’s own profit than the personal requirements of the end user.

Of course, this does not always happen, but it is almost impossible to distinguish the black sheep from good sellers at first glance.

In any case, it is safer to find out about the quality of mini projectors from independent sources . In this way, there is no risk of falling for a promotion from large manufacturers or electronics chains. In our Mini Beamer product reports, we report completely independently and are not accountable to any particular manufacturer or dealer. This allows us to report freely and does not have to take into account which company logo is emblazoned on a mini projector. In this mini projector test, our readers benefit from a fair overview of the available projectors and can get an idea of the devices in detail.

Beyond independent reporting, the Internet has an even more obvious advantage over retail. With a few exceptions, prices are always lower here. This is largely due to the fact that online shops can be operated much more cheaply in maintenance.

Fewer personnel are required and the operators only need storage space for the items offered. A specialist dealer, on the other hand, has to manage sales space that is significantly more expensive to maintain. Most internet shops pass on the resulting price advantages directly to their customers. They also have to do this because they are constantly in direct competition with countless other providers. Only those who offer attractive prices have a chance to get noticed on the Internet.

The large number of providers not only leads to advantages in terms of price, it also increases the selection enormously. A specialist dealer usually only has a few mini projectors available directly and concentrates primarily on models that sell particularly well.

If you have more exotic requirements and cannot rely on mass-produced goods, you will quickly find yourself stuck here. On the net, however, it is not a problem if a dealer does not have the desired mini projector in the range. An alternative provider can be found quickly with just a few clicks.

For this reason, nobody on the Internet has to make do with a second choice. When shopping, you have the free choice between dealers from all over Germany and whoever wants to can even import their mini projector from abroad.

The delivery is then conveniently to the front door and often after a few days. If you are in a hurry, many dealers also offer express delivery with guaranteed delivery within 24 hours . Incidentally, in most cases, delivery to an alternative address is also possible. If you are rarely at home, you can have your mini projector sent to the office or to friends. You are very flexible in this regard.

Buying a mini projector on the Internet is also much more convenient than in retail. You can inshopping in your own four walls, be it on the couch or in bed . The annoying search for a parking space in the city center is completely eliminated and there is also no long queue in line. Last but not least, everyone can choose when they want to shop. There are no opening hours online. Even in the middle of the night, on weekends or on public holidays, everyone can shop for a mini projector without restrictions.

Those who are concerned about warranty cases or the taking back of articles on the Internet can calm down. There is no reason to avoid online shops because of such fears. On the contrary, online shopping is actually safer than retail. Many online shops, such as Amazon, are characterized by their customer friendliness. Here, too, buyers enjoy all the advantages of the manufacturer’s guarantee and the statutory guarantee.

In addition, you also have the right to return an item without reason within 14 days of purchase. If a mini projector does not meet your own expectations, it can be returned without a defect.

If there is no impairment, customers will be reimbursed the full purchase price. You only have to bear the shipping costs yourself with some providers. Not every provider in retail offers such an option. Although some dealers behave similarly, there is no legal basis for this. As a buyer, you are at the mercy of the specialist dealers. If he does not want to take back a certain article, you can sit on it in doubt.

Due to the numerous advantages , it is difficult to recommend the specialist trade for the purchase of a mini projector. Online shopping is ultimately more convenient, safer and also cheaper. We can therefore only recommend the numerous online shops to everyone.

Interesting facts & advice

Below you will find some interesting facts about the subject of mini projectors as well as useful tips for everyday use.

The history of the mini projector

Mini projectors can look back on a very young history. For a long time it was considered impossible to squeeze a video projector into a handy format. The devices were too demanding in terms of the technology used. The lighting in particular places extremely high demands. But with the constant development of LEDs, the downsizing of beamers was finally possible.

The lighting elements became smaller and smaller, used less electricity and were able to generate more brightness at the same time. Around 2010 , the first manufacturers started to build projectors based on LEDs. Initially, the focus was on the possibility of using classic projection lamps with LEDsreplace. The latter convince with numerous advantages such as lower costs, higher durability and much easier maintenance. It wasn’t long before the engineers saw the potential for portable devices.

Initially, mini projectors received very little attention because it was a completely new product category. Before there was no such thing as a projector for your pocket, which is why many could not think of a useful purpose. In addition, the first devices could not keep up with their competitors in terms of image quality. Most mini projectors were just too dark and it only made sense to use them in completely darkened rooms.

However, more modern mini projectors cut a much better figure and are also a sensible option for bright rooms.

Many models today also master HD format with ease , so that excellent image quality is offered. But the development is far from over. Leading technology companies are constantly researching to improve the mini projectors even further. In the future, we can therefore look forward to new and better devices with which we can always carry a full projector with us.

Numbers, data, facts about the mini projector

Mini projectors are not only an important topic in industry as a separate device class. They are also often used as an integrated solution in various other devices.

An example of this are some Sony camcorders in which a projector is integrated. On the back of the display is the corresponding technology, which simply throws pictures and videos onto the next best wall.

This means that several people no longer have to congregate in front of a tiny LED screen when travelingto be able to enjoy the latest recordings. Instead, an image with a diagonal of about one meter is available.

Mini projectors are also becoming increasingly important for smartphones and tablets . Large displays are very popular with such devices, but at the same time the devices must not be too large so that they can still be easily transported. Integrated projectors offer an interesting compromise here. Cell phone projectors in particular are becoming increasingly popular.

An integrated LCD display will then continue to be used for everyday use. But as soon as a video is to be played, it is projected onto a wall or a screen in large format with just a few keystrokes. As of today there are only a handful of appropriate solutions, in the future they should Selection but increase significantly.

Some manufacturers have already impressively demonstrated how small a projector can be thanks to LED technology . There are some models that are hardly bigger than a standard USB stick today. In this format, for example as a cell phone projector, the mini projectors even fit in an average pocket.

However, with such microscopic dimensions, users have to accept compromises in terms of quality.

The smallest projectors cannot compete with the best mini projectors when it comes to quality . They lack a lot in both the image and the sound. Nevertheless, such devices are a good option for presentations or simply for anyone who wants to carry as little weight as possible.

Mini projector vs. normal projector

Even if mini projectors basically serve their own target group, there is no way around comparing them to normal projectors. Some of you may be wondering whether your own home cinema can also be operated with a mini projector.

You can find out in what respects the two techniques differ and how far advantages and disadvantages arise from them .

The mercilessly good image and speak for normal projectors Sound quality . The powerful lamps and large lenses create significantly larger diagonals, including 150 and 200 inches, which are better illuminated. This results in nicer color gradients and a smoother picture overall.

Normal projectors are usually also available with the latest technology. As of today, projectors are already available with 4K resolution , while mini projectors do not go beyond Full HD .

Normal projectors also have an advantage when it comes to sound output . If integrated speakers are available, they have a larger volume.

This means that they can not only reproduce sounds louder, but also more precisely. The result is rich sounds that cannot be emulated in the format of a mini projector.

Although mini projectors cannot keep up with the quality, they are far from superfluous. They also offer some advantages that cannot be dismissed out of hand.

The first priority is of course portability . Thanks to their small size and light weight, they can be used anywhere and can be easily carried in a bag or backpack. For example, users can always carry a projector in their notebook bag and spontaneously run a presentation. On the other hand, normal projectors are often so big and heavy that even transporting them from one room to another is quite difficult.

If you choose a mini projector as an alternative to a normal projector , you will also be pleased with the lower power consumption. Many small projectors use just 1% of the electricity of a normal projector and are therefore extremely cheap to operate. There is also the advantage of simple maintenance. In classic projectors, the projector lamp is an absolute wear part. After a certain operating time, the brightness drops noticeably or the lamp even quits completely. There is no way around an expensive new lamp. The LEDs in mini projectors, on the other hand, often last a decade or even longer, so that usually no further costs arise after purchase.

Which type of projector is the right one depends primarily on the individual requirements . For your own home cinema or as a projector in the living room, normal or daylight projectors are still preferred. They conjure up a much better picture on the screen and are bright enough to be used even in daylight. But if you don’t want to do without a projector on the go and only make moderate demands in terms of quality, a mini projector can be sufficient for every situation.

Care and cleaning

Due to their comparatively simple technology, mini projectors require significantly less attention than a classic representative of this type.

However, proper cleaning is not to be neglected . In particular, the lens should be cleaned if possible before each use. This is the only way to ensure that the image is as sharp as possible and is not affected by grease stains or other contaminants. Compressed air spray or, alternatively, a slightly moistened microfiber cloth can be used for cleaning . However, never use a rag that could scratch the lens in any way. In the worst case, this could destroy the entire projector.

The housing of a mini projector can also be cleaned with a microfiber cloth. Heavy soiling can also be removed with a cleaning agent. However, this should be pH neutral so as not to attack the material. In order for your Mini Beamers to run smoothly, it is also important to remove dust from it regularly.

This ensures that the ventilation slots do not become clogged and that heat builds up. Here, too, compressed air spray is a good option, which removes the dust from the housing and ensures good airflow again.

But it is also worth opening the case regularly and thoroughly removing any deposits. If you don’t trust yourself to do this, you can have it done by experts in appropriate repair shops.

So that it does not have to strong contamination comes is the correct transport of a mini projector crucial. Whenever possible, this should fit into a lockable bag and not simply be carried loose. In this way, a projector is much better protected against dust and other contaminants.

Useful accessories

A wide selection of accessories is available for mini projectors , which makes using them even more fun. For example, a good investment is a suitable canvas. In this way you provide an optimal basis for a good picture, always and everywhere. Especially in our own home theater , we can only recommend a screen. Transport is certainly a difficult topic on the way, but there are also some small and light canvases on the go.

So that you do not have to worry about an empty battery on the go, so-called power banks are available as a supplement. In principle, it is a battery in a housing with a USB connection. Users can use it to charge all kinds of devices on the go, including smartphones, tablets or mini projectors. Depending on the type and configuration of a power bank, the battery of a mini projector can easily be fully charged two to three times. Evening entertainment without a socket is no longer a problem.

A portable speaker for a mini projector is worthwhile, especially on the go . Although the projectors themselves often have an integrated loudspeaker, this is due to the design, but is greatly undersized.

Due to the lack of volume in the housing, both sound and volume disappoint. Often enough, even the integrated fan completely drowns out the boxes of a mini projector.

A portable speaker is able to produce much louder and more balanced sounds. The connection is made with a 3.5 mm jack cable, an HDMI connection, or wirelessly via Bluetooth. Since portable speakers have their own rechargeable battery, the setup can still be used without a socket.

If you want to take your mini projector often with you , you should definitely not save money with a suitable bag. This protects mini projectors from dirt and other dangers and can thereby significantly increase their longevity. If you do not find a dedicated bag for your own mini projector, it is sometimes worth taking a look at photo bags. Usually there is a mini projector in a pocket for a compact camera.

For the correct connection of a mini projector, of course, the appropriate cables and connections are also required. In the mobile area, an MHL cable is a must. It offers a connection from USB to an HDMI connection and so smartphones and tablets can also be connected with a mini projector. Of course, it depends on your own needs which cables are required in individual cases. On longer trips, of course, nobody should forget a charging cable.

Alternatives to the mini projector

There is hardly an alternative to the mini projector that would serve the exact same niche. Of course, normal projectors are a good option at home, but very few will buy a mini projector just for their own living room. Portability always plays an important role.

Tablets can be an alternative if the screen size does not have to be too large. A tablet also offers a fairly large screen, which has the advantage that it does not suffer as much from strong light. However, transport is usually a little more difficult because tablets are neither as handy nor as light as mini projectors. But it is enough to spontaneously take your own content with you to a friend or to the office.

But there is no real alternative to mini projectors . It is currently the only device class that can generate images with a large diagonal of 50 inches or more at any location without external power supply. Although there are of course some restrictions, the mini projectors are currently still unrivaled on the market.
